When we are lied to and deceived, we feel hurt, betrayed, disoriented.
How do we make it stop?
If we were to get curious about where lies come from, we might find that they come from a place of fear.
If I tell the truth:
I might be punished.
I might be judged.
I might be abandoned.
I might be disliked.
I might have to change, and I don’t know if I can.
Lies are what we tell ourselves and others when we fear facing the truth.
We can create a space for ourselves and others that is open to understanding. This is no small task, as the truth often hurts.
Are we ready to tolerate our own pain and discomfort? Can we give ourselves and others the space to be honest and transparent? Can we create a space that is ready to receive the truth?
Until the answer is yes, lies will continue to be a part of our everyday life in everyday relationships.
It takes courage to tell the truth…it also takes courage to hear it.
